The Process

Digital right to work checks are only available for candidates that hold a British or Irish passport or Irish Identity card

Only the following documents will be acceptable for UK digital right to work checks:

  • Valid British Passport
  • Valid Irish Passport
  • Valid Irish ID cards

If the candidate has a valid UK/Irish Passport or Irish ID card:

Candidate will receive a branded email or SMS to invite them to complete digital RTW checks online using a secure link. The candidate is asked to take an image of their valid document along with a selfie using a mobile device or desktop camera. The system performs liveness detection, facial biometrics, and document validation. The result will be included in the candidate screening report.

If the candidate does not have a valid UK/Irish Passport or Irish ID card:

Candidates without a current UK / Irish passport cannot verify their RTW ID digitally, and the employer will need to conduct face to face checks from the 1st October 2022. We will highlight any candidates that we have not been able to perform this check.

The employer’s duty

By using CV Insight Digital right to work service we can assist you with your statutory excuse for UK RTW. The checks we perform are compliant with the home office guidelines for employers throughout the UK.

It is recommended that you as the employer verify the details of the digital right checks we perform with employees who will present themselves for work. This is required to confirm the individual is not a fraud.

A digital right to work check is necessary to ensure that individuals hired for employment have the legal immigration status to work in the UK. It helps employers maintain compliance with immigration laws and regulations.

We conduct this check in collaboration with our partner who are a UK government certified identity document validation provider (IDVT).

Conducting digital Right to Work checks presents a range of benefits, encompassing streamlined processes, decreased administrative load for employers and employees, faster verifications, heightened data security, and the capacity for remote checks. This method guarantees compliance while optimising the efficiency of workforce management.

If the Government Legislation has been passed during the Digital Identity check, this will eliminate the necessity for employers to independently verify candidates’ IDs for Right to Work and DBS checks.

In line with the guidance by The DBS and Home Office in 2022, employers in the UK maintain the right to carry out in-person, manual identity checks on their candidates. Digital Identity Verification serves as an extra option.
